Sample results from WINGSPAN

Below is a time history of a gamma-ray burst observed with BATSE. The count rate is summed over multiple energy channels for display purposes, and this energy range is listed in the upper right hand corner of the plot (~34 - 1856 keV).

The count spectrum (count rate as a function of energy) at the maximum in the time history has been deconvolved with the WINGSPAN / MFIT package. The resulting photon spectrum is shown below.

Approximately 40 different photon model spectral functions are available for use in model fitting count spectra. In addition, user-defined models can easily be added. Additive terms used to model features such as spectral lines are also available.

Although this example demonstrates a model fit for a single BATSE detector (LAD #6), WINGSPAN is capable of fitting up to 8 spectra simultaneously.

All graphics produced by the software can be written to Postscript files, and options are available to create publication-quality plots. For detailed information about all functions available in WINGSPAN, consult the On-Line Help.
